Experiencing or witnessing community violence or school violence can have a lasting impact on emotional well-being. Many people continue to carry feelings of fear, grief, anxiety, or uncertainty long after the event has passed. At Life and Light: Psychotherapy & Wellness, we believe healing happens through connection, support, and practical tools for coping.

Our Healing After Violence DBT Skills Group offers a supportive online therapy group designed for adults in the Minneapolis–St. Paul metro area and across Minnesota who have been affected by community violence, school violence, or traumatic events in their communities.

A Supportive Online Space for Healing

This group therapy experience is built on principles from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based approach that helps individuals build emotional resilience and develop healthy coping strategies.

Participants will learn skills that support healing and recovery, including:

  • Emotional regulation to manage overwhelming feelings

  • Distress tolerance techniques for navigating difficult moments

  • Coping with fear, grief, and trauma in a safe environment

  • Rebuilding a sense of safety and control

Through shared experiences and guided skill building, group members can connect with others who understand what they are going through and begin to move forward together.

Convenient Telehealth Therapy for Minnesota Residents

Life and Light offers this therapy group online through secure telehealth, making it accessible to individuals throughout the Twin Cities, St. Louis Park, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding Minnesota communities.

Online therapy allows participants to access professional mental health support from the comfort and privacy of their own home. Major insurance plans are accepted, making treatment more accessible for many individuals and families.

Meet the Group Facilitators

The group is facilitated by experienced mental health professionals:

  • Nicola Demonte, MA, ALM

  • Nikhil Kaistha, M.S.Ed, LPCC

Both clinicians specialize in trauma-informed care and provide compassionate guidance as participants develop tools for healing and resilience.

You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone

If you or someone you love has been impacted by community or school violence, support is available. Healing is possible, and you do not have to go through it alone.
